In a refugee camp in Greece voluntaries are starting schools for children. The teachers told the interviewer that the only language taught is English. Why? Because probably no one of the refugees should or were allowed stay in Greece. All of them were to go to a foreign country. They did not even think of teaching Swedish. Knowledge of English is essential.
As I understand it, it takes quite a long time to get the asylum investigation completed and a verdict communicated to the refugee. It seems as only 50 percent get a residence permit. The others shall leave the country. Actually as many as 80000 people risk deportation. It may take more than a year to get the decision and in the meantime only those who attend SFI (Swedish for Immigrants) are allowed to work. Why should we teach 80000 people to speak Swedish for no purpose at all?
